Research

I looked at Martin Parr’s work, he is a British photographer, he took picture of very ordinary things such as food, but this is something we need everyday so I thought it was interesting. Then I also started to take pictures of ordinary things or some random moments.

While doing ceramic project, I also looked at some chinese drawings for practicing loose drawings, I found Chinese drawings are actually quite contemporary, because their minimal style almost like free hand drawings.  And also the spaces they left deliberately which is very interesting, and the subjects are always well placed.

Qi Bai Shi, he was one of the most famous Chinese artists, and was especially into drawing fish and shrimps.

I am also looking at some ceramic sculptures, and this Italian artist I found was what exactly I was looking for. Her works are very organic looking, they almost like naturally formed, without polishing.

Sabine Pagliarulo. Sabine is nourished by nature. Leaves, shells, pebbles, oxidized iron elements are combined with the clay giving rise to a series of ceramic works that respond to a serene and harmonious vision of the world by staging a universe full of poetry and emotion, where beauty becomes construction element, the genesis of the form and substance of nature.

Kerry Hastings Ceramics - hand coiled one of a kind bowls. These glazes are subtle but lovely. These are Matte glazes, the colours and texture of the glazes make me think of pebbles which are very natural.

Debra Boyd-Goggin

Her work is made with a combination of slab and coil hand-building into moulds, or is thrown on the wheel with hand-built manipulations. The surface is carved, slipped or inlayed and has multiple glazes applied through painting and spraying.

Found quite interested in Gwen John's paintings, these paintings are in a old style, but I like the colours she used which were quite low key.  As a female painter, her works are very feminine, many of her paintings are a lady sitting quietly and holding a book in her hand with soft lights which looked settle.

As I haven't find any portraits painter which I like, I looked at some photographer first, and found this amazing Italian photographer  Marta Bevacqua .  I love her works, I think the photographs she took have  strong emotions and very powerful. And I also love the colour she uses, which gives a dull and sad feeling.

Emily Blincoe American photographer, she takes photographs of arranged things with amazing colours. She collects things with different colour and place them in gradient which gives a neat and comfortable feeling.

I really like the works of Yayoi Kusama, her works are characterised by its stunning use of colour and their obsessive repetition of motifs such as dots.
